Ingredients:
- tempeh (a soy protien alternative similar to tofu- can be found at most grocery stores/healthfood stores) get the plain kind
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tamari or soy sauce
- 1/2 tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp mustard powder/ ground mustard
- 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1/2 tbsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- bread/buns of choice
Method:
- crubmle the tempeh until you get around 3/4 cup of crumbles. Then place the crumbles in a bowl and add the tamari/soy sauce and stir until lightly coated. Store in the fridge for like an hour, or over night. Doesnt matter.
- when youre ready to cook put the olive oil in a pan and the marinated tempeh on top and cook until slightly brown.
- add your spices and mix the tempeh
- add the tomato sauce and cover the pan allowing to cook on low heat.
- check back and when the sauce is the desired texture/temperature spoon out onto the buns and eat it
- use napkins
- or dont, be a hot mess (no one cares except the animals youre not eating- they like you)
** tempeh is great!! It soaks up whatever flavour you marinate it in almost immediately. The way it crumbles makes it a great alternative for ground beef **
*** sometimes i crave a slightly sweeter taste- almost like a sweet bbq sauce so i will add a tablespoon of agave, so thats optional ***
